We really rely on our experienced youth to round out the crews and help the first-timers get up to speed. Thank you for your dedication to the Appalachia Service Project!
You spoke, we listened, and so we’ve made big changes to our meetings this year. NOTE: there will be no rallies, only the four mandatory orientations. And, to eliminate the long lines and waiting, signups for car washes and trainings will be done only online. You will only be able to sign up once you have registered, paid, and turned in all forms. A link will be provided once registration opens.
Due to the large youth response to our program, we will need to start a waiting list for the 2020 ASP Trip. If you are a high school youth, did not attend the first orientation and have not yet registered, you will be placed on the waiting list pending the addition of more adult volunteers. Furthermore, you will have to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to make up the first orientation.
Please register and if we are not able to accommodate you on this trip, your registration fee will be refunded.
Registration is being done online again this year. You will need to have all of your information handy before you start, including: personal data, emergency contacts, medical history (including tetanus shot date), insurance information and credit card/banking details.
After completing the online registration, you will need to print out a small packet of forms that require signatures. One of these forms needs to be notarized, which can be done in advance or with our notary at the meetings. Registration, payment and forms are required prior to signing up for any skills training and car washes.

All ASP volunteers are required to attend and participate in all four of our pre-trip orientations. You will receive training on work site safety, cultural sensitivity and stewardship.
Please note, we will not be having a rally this year so all four orientations are mandatory.
Identical orientations are offered on two separate dates so that you may select the date that best fits your schedule (with the exception of Orientation 4 which is offered only once).
Also new this year – orientations will run from 6:30-9:00 p.m. for new volunteers and from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for volunteers who have participated previously. Please be prompt.

Wheelchair Ramp Building
All ASP participants are required to participate in a wheelchair ramp building session. This five-hour session is designed to imitate a standard workday on the ASP trip. Participants will be assigned a work crew based on experience and will assist in the assembly of several segments of a wheelchair ramp. Click “read more” to get additional information and sign up.
Senior Skills Training
Youth and adults who have participated in ASP for at least two years have the opportunity to replace wheelchair ramp building with senior skills training. Click “read more” to get additional information and sign up.
ASP participants are required to work at two car washes prior to the trip. Car washes are held on Saturdays between March and June, in the front driveway of Jesse Lee, with two shifts: 10:30 AM – 1:45 PM, and 1:30 PM – 4:45 PM. Click “read more” to get additional information and sign up.
Everyone participating in ASP is expected to sell 25 shares of $10 “ASP Stock.” The first 13 shares of stock should be turned in at Orientation 2. The remainder at Orientation 3.
Packing and Departing
The success of the ASP trip is highly dependent on proper preparation, and that is true for packing. Every participant should download the packing list and follow the instructions carefully.
We will pack the vans on Friday, June 26, at 6:30 PM. We will gather for departure at 7:30 AM on Saturday, June 27. Be sure to bring a lunch.
