ASP (Appalachia Service Project) is a hands-on home-repair ministry that is sponsored locally by Jesse Lee Church. It makes a huge difference for families who live in the mountains of West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina, some of the most poverty-stricken areas of our country. We work not only to make their homes warmer, safer and drier but also to give them hope.
An in-person informational meeting is being held in the Sanctuary at Jesse Lee Church on Wednesday, January 26th at 7:30 for new adults and youth who are interested in learning more about our programs.
This year Jesse Lee ASP will be once again be offering two concurrent projects – a trip to Appalachia and an ASP-At-Home opportunity. Volunteers who are up-to-date with their vaccinations and boosters will have the option to participate in the ASP summer program down in Appalachia. Those who are not vaccinated or choose not to travel may take part in our ASP-At-Home trip, helping families in the Fairfield County area.
Both options will run the same week and function in similar manners. While the specific plans for the two projects are being worked out, it will soon be time for volunteers to register and begin their trainings and orientations.
To participate in either program, volunteers are required to do the following:
- Register and pay the appropriate fee (Registration will be coming soon)
- Complete a 2.5-hour Basic Skills session – FIRST TIME VOLUNTEERS ONLY
- Complete a Ramp Building skill training session
- Complete 1 car wash
- Sell at least 25 Shares of stock at $10 per share
- Attend the 4 orientation meetings
Countdown until ASP 2022!
